Dr Gordon Cook, MB.ChB., PhD, FRCP(Glas), FRCPath, FRCPI

Director of Blood and Marrow Transplantation, Leeds
Consultant Haematologist & Honorary Senior Lecturer, University of Leeds

I graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1988 and following training in Internal Medicine, I entered higher professional training in haematology in the West of Scotland. During my training I developed an interest in multiple myeloma, both clinical and academic, and Stem Cell Transplantation through the mentoring of Professor Ian Franklin. I completed my PhD in the molecular and cellular immunology of myeloma-associated immunosuppression and extensions of this work have been supported by subsequent peer-reviewed grants.

Initially appointed as a consultant Haematologist in the West of Scotland, I moved to take up the post of Director of Blood and Marrow Transplantation in Yorkshire, based at Leeds Teaching hospitals, in 2001.

I am currently the chair of the BSBMT Clinical Trials Committee, Executive Committee member of the BSBMT and chair of the BSBMT Training & Education sub-committee. I represent the transplant society on the NCRI Haematology-Oncology Clinical Studies Group and the UK MDS Forum CTC. I am an executive committee member of the UKMF, UKMF website editor, member of the NCRI Haem-Onc CSG Myeloma sub-group and Principal Investigator for Myeloma X. In addition, I am a Board member of Myeloma UK and Medical Editor of Myeloma Today.

I run a small peer-review grant-funded basic research group (2 post-docs, 1 clinical scientist, 1 PhD student & 1 clinical fellow) with areas of interests in transplantation and tumour immunology.
